The Society of Instrument and Control Engineers (SICE) and Society of Automotive Engineers of Japan (JSAE) established “Joint Research Committee of SICE-JSAE on Automotive Control and Modeling” in order to confront various subjects in automotive society and to encourage joint activities between automotive industries and academics. The committee has provided four benchmark problems as research themes for academics and supported their research activities. Recently, the integration with information system, social systems, and transportation system is progressing remarkably in order to create new value. Moreover, automated driving system is also focused on as one of key technologies in next-generation automotive society. Consequently, the committee will newly provide two benchmark problems focusing on future automotive society. One of them is the optimization problem for transportation system composed of some electrical vehicles and a smart office equipped with solar panels. In this problem, the electricity consumption of the whole system has to be minimized. The simulation environment for the problem is realized by MapleSim and MATLAB/Simulink. It will be very important for a next-generation automated driving system to predict pedestrian’s movement accurately. So, the committee will provide the subject to model pedestrian’s movement in a crowd and to predict future their movement after a few seconds modeling as another benchmark problem. In this speech, the activities of the committee and the new benchmark problems will be introduced.
