The Synopsys Optical Solutions Group has a long history of providing industry-leading optical design software across a wide range of applications. In this talk we will briefly discuss the company and it’s history. We will then discuss our different product lines including: CODE V, LightTools, LucidShape, RSoft and our newest addition Phoenix PIC Design software. We will also talk about future developments for each of the software lines.

Simulation Methodology for LiDAR on Chip

Simulation plays a critical role in the design and optimization of LiDAR on chip, but there is no single software tool that can completely handle such a complex device. In this paper, we present a simulation methodology that decomposes the complex structure into several simpler building blocks, and applies the appropriate algorithm to each. For example, the grating coupler, which is too big for a full FDTD simulation, can be treated through a coherent combination of individual grating simulation results. This provides a feasible solution which can be run on a typical PC.

The use of freeform optics is becoming more common and more critical to optical designs. LightTools has a unique, advanced Freeform Design tool. This tool allows users to quickly design freeform reflectors and lenses to meet a wide variety applications. In this talk we will review the capabilities and usage of the Freeform Designer including the new distortion correction tool that allows users to compensate for intervening optics such as projection lenses, fixture covers and turn mirrors. 新一代繞射光學-平板聚焦元件的新時代

光學聚焦元件的設計上從日常生活隨處可見的光學鏡頭的應用,到微奈米的積體光路元件,都能將光源成像或聚焦至同一個點,但對於高品質成像或是聚焦元件積體化,一直是科學家和工程視為挑戰之一。新一代的聚焦元件打破傳統厚重的凹凸透鏡,此平面鏡頭也稱超穎透鏡(Metalenses),不需透鏡消弭像差,只需要薄薄一片基板上面製作奈米柱陣列,即可達到高解析影像。這樣的微小結構設計,需要的空間更小,高成像效率,可達到裝置輕薄化,可應用於需要輕薄的穿戴裝置,例如AR/VR眼鏡等。

Design and Simulation of Metalens Structures with RSoft and CODE V

Metalens has attracted a lot of attention latterly and design such component remains a challenge problem because of its optically big device with tinny nano-structure. In this talk, we demonstrated an effective simulation approach for metalens design by combining multiple Synopsys tools. Rigorous RSoft FullWAVE or DiffractMOD are used to calculate the phase delay of various nano-cells, and efficient BeamPROP or CODE V BSP are used to trace the beam propagation through the metalens or its phase mask. The test example shows that this multi-tool combined approach is accurate and efficient with reduced demand on computational memory and time.
